Position Summary

The Maintenance Assistant/ Fleet Specialist performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled labor-intensive tasks required to maintain all agency structures, equipment, and grounds. Concurrently, this position administers and coordinates the mechanical upkeep, routine preventive maintenance, regulatory compliance, and licensing of the agency's vehicle fleet. The position requires independent judgment, the ability to manage emergency calls outside of standard hours,to ensure minimal disruption to agency services.

Essential Functions

  • Perform structural modifications and repairs including minor construction, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work across all Agency locations.
  • Coordinate and facilitate formal bids for major construction, remodeling, or exterior building/grounds projects requiring third-party contractors.
  • Execute interior and exterior facility upkeep such as painting, patching/plastering walls, and repairing or replacing wall coverings and flooring types.
  • Construct and repair Agency assets including wood or metal equipment, furniture, doors, shelves, and structural fixtures.
  • Maintain operational plumbing and electrical networks by clearing stopped sewage/drain lines, replacing fixtures (faucets, toilets, sinks, valves), and swapping out faulty outlets, light fixtures, switches, or related controls.
  • Service, adjust, and calibrate essential machinery including facility air conditioners, and industrial kitchen appliances.
  • Manage routine environmental systems maintenance by monitoring and changing filters across all agency heating and cooling systems.
  • Coordinate routine preventive vehicle maintenance for the agency fleet, executing scheduled oil changes and minor mechanical work within standard manufacturer guidelines.
  • Monitor fleet safety compliance by conducting routine monthly vehicle safety inspections,tire rotations or replacements, and tracking state licensing and registration requirements.
  • Maintain detailed administrative documentation including meticulous digital and physical logs of vehicle maintenance, facility repairs, parts inventory, and timesheets.
  • Enforce budgetary restrictions by identifying, documenting, and reporting all major facility or fleet damages exceeding $500 to the supervisor for prior administrative approval.
  • Maintain continuous emergency accessibility by remaining responsive to emergency service calls at all times.

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Trade Practices: Considerable knowledge of standard tools, materials, crafts, and safety precautions utilized across building, mechanical, and electrical trades.
  • Fleet Diagnostics: Demonstrated ability to accurately evaluate vehicle conditions and perform routine automotive troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Analytical Planning: Skill in estimating job-hours, material metrics, and overall cost projections for contract work.
  • Technical Literacy: Ability to read, interpret, and accurately execute plans, blueprints, sketches, and building specifications.
  • Autonomy: High level of dependability, self-motivation, and the capacity to work efficiently without continuous direct supervision.

Required Education

  • HS Diploma or Equivalent

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of verifiable related facilities maintenance experience is required, with at least three (3) years specifically incorporating routine automotive fleet maintenance is preferred.
  • Credentials: Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and proof of current auto insurance.
  • Agency Compliance: Obtain and maintain all agency-required certifications and training in accordance with CSS policy.

Physical Requirements

  • All employees should possess the ability to:
  • Lift 50 pounds or more on a repeated basis as required.
  • Potentially bend, stoop, kneel, and twist repeatedly.
  • Operate any required equipment with good dexterity.
  • Traverse changing terrain.
  • Periodically alternate between standing, sitting, and walking.
