Community of Hope is seeking a WIC Administrative Assistant to provide clerical, customer service, and program support for the WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) program.  The WIC Administrative Assistant will be passionate about promoting breastfeeding as a core component of WIC services and will help support WIC program participants by ensuring smooth daily operations, maintaining records, scheduling appointments, and supporting WIC staff in delivering WIC services to eligible families.  This full-time position is based out of our Conway Health & Resource Center in SW, Washington, DC, but will require work from other COH locations.

What You'll Do

  • Supports the WIC program and participants by answering phones, gathering eligibility information, scheduling appointments, and supporting smooth WIC clinic flow.  Assists with coordination of WIC services, including breastfeeding promotion and support, making referrals as warranted and helping with outreach activities.
  • Educates applicants regarding their rights and responsibilities, including the food delivery system, WIC foods, certification schedule, and assists with group education activities as needed.
  • Prepares and issues various notices to clients regarding eligibility, certification and benefit card utilization. 
  • Ensures confidentiality of WIC data and protects WIC information systems against unauthorized access.
  • Maintains partial access to the Service Site module within HANDS system and utilizes the system according to program guidelines.
  • Educates applicants regarding their rights and responsibilities, including the food delivery system, WIC foods, certification schedule, and assists with group education activities as needed.
  • Assures that proper documentation of benefit package issuance is maintained and that supplies and materials are properly secured.
  • Assists in resolving routine problems presented by participants and in correcting and resolving certification and caseload management reports.

Requirements

Must-Haves

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Current or former WIC participant. 
  • Has breastfed/chestfed at least one baby for a minimum of six months, per program requirements. 
  • Excellent time management and customer service skills.
  • The ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, Internet).
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and commitment to working in a professional environment.
  • Ability to work from other COH locations and travel between COH sites. 
  • Proof of required vaccinations is required. COH will consider requests for reasonable accommodations for anyone who cannot be vaccinated for a religious or medical reason, subject to applicable law.

Nice-to-Haves

  • The ability to establish rapport with individuals and small groups.
  • Familiarity with computer systems and/or data entry.
