SCHEDULE

Intermittent work is on call where there is no promise of hours but you can work up to 20 hours per week dependent on the needs of the agency. We request that you pick up one to two shifts weekly at minimum. Shifts are 24/7: 7am - 3pm, 8am - 4pm, 3pm - 11pm, 4pm - 12am, 7pm - 3am, 11pm - 7am, and 12am to 8am. Weekend shift coverage is required. All shifts will need coverage at some point. Advance Notice is usually given except during illness or emergency.

Compensation

Hourly Rate: $16.53 - $22.54 depending on experience

Job Summary

General Description: Monitors the health, safety, and security of designated recipients simultaneously via electronic monitoring systems from a central location and responds to their needs verbally, in person, or by arranging for the appropriate response. Responds and supports at scheduled intervals determined by the service plan as needed or on an emergency basis.

Responsibilities and Duties: Provides for the direct care, intervention and support needs of recipients during the hours when face-to-face staff are not present in individual's homes. Operates electronic monitoring systems ensuring that each system works properly. Monitors incoming auditory cues for indications that support or intervention is needed. Pays special attention to needs identified in service plans and potential emergency situations through the system or in person. Nurtures, comforts and assures available opportunities for communication by recipients through the monitoring systems. Complies with all applicable policies and procedures including documentation requirements in a timely manner. Promotes safe, secure and healthful living conditions for recipients. Knows and follows emergency procedures affecting recipients' welfare.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

General Education: High School diploma or GED is required.

Courses: DCH Group Home Curriculum, specifically basic first aid and CPR, medication administration and crisis avoidance techniques.

Job-Related Experience: Sufficient experience to perform the position at a satisfactory level required. Group home training or two years of experience in a caregiver role (home health, CENAs, group home, private home) serving individuals with a developmental disability or mental illness is preferred.

Licenses: Valid driver's license necessary while operating vehicle on agency business.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Knowledge: Knowledge of individuals with developmental disabilities. Knowledge of medications. Knowledge of appropriate living conditions and emergency procedures, which affect recipient's welfare.

Skills: Basic computer skills, strong reading skills and telephone skills.

Abilities: Strong independent judgement skills, excellent verbal communication and familiarity with the geographic area. Good memory for details, ability to work independently and to work effectively in crisis situations. Excellent receptive language and hearing skills. Ability to communicate well with recipients and staff both orally and in writing. Ability to work with professional staff as a team member. Must be flexible, remain calm under pressure and have ability not to over react to certain situations, comments, and sometimes difficult behaviors. Ability to assist recipients with personal needs as outlined in the treatment plan. Ability to stay organized and utilize time in the most efficient manner. Must demonstrate respect for recipients with an understanding of their needs, support expression of their ideas, emotions and assist them in positive decision making skills. Ability to interact, relate and redirect recipients as necessary.

Physical Demands: Work involves periods of sitting or standing and listening interspersed with driving, walking and providing direct care. Direct care could include lifting, positioning and domestic duties.

Work Environment: Work will be performed in a monitoring control room, agency automobiles, recipients' homes and in the community at-large.
