POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide aspirational job development and placement services as part of a Project SEARCH program team. Identify student interns’ strengths, interests and abilities related to career counseling, job development, and placement at the Project SEARCH host business or a community employer. Determine what supports and/or adaptations may be needed for training and successful employment.  

 

The Job Developer will:

  • Work part time on site at the Project Search program, and work closely with the Project Search team.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with our program partners (School District of Philadelphia and Drexel University) 
  • Be able to manage their time to place all students by the Project Search deadline 
  • Create new relationships and maintain existing relationships with internship sites 
  • Support high school age students (ages 18-21 years old)  

Main Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Attend Employment Planning Meetings with the intern and all team members to learn the intern’s career interests, specific job preferences (hours, location, etc.), skills, and abilities for an individualized employment plan. 
  • Assist with the employment plan and implement specific vocational components of the plan, including job search, training, and the development of specific goals, objectives, and activities for a successful transition to work. 
  • Work with the business liaison, onsite team, and families to help secure competitive, integrated employment at the host business (when appropriate) or in the community.  For interns not employed by the host business, find career-oriented job opportunities in businesses that meet the intern’s employment goal, allowing them to use skills developed during their internships.  
  • Offer interns workshops and individual assistance with resume development, interviewing techniques, and other job preparation activities in coordination with the onsite team. 
  • Complete targeted job market research.  Provide outreach to community businesses and associations (such as the Chamber and Rotary) to develop linkages and a network of employers that offer job opportunities using the skills learned at the host business. 
  • Coordinate employment activities with Vocational Rehabilitation. 
  • Develop linkages among other agencies to assure effective transition from Project SEARCH to successful competitive, integrated employment. 
  • Coordinate job placement, training/coaching activities, travel training (if available), accommodations, and necessary job supports for interns. 
  • Work with interns and graduates, employers, families, agency personnel, and other appropriate parties to problem solve issues related to employment. 
  • When an intern or graduate achieves employment, provide information for data entry in the Member Portal to the appropriate team member. 
  • Provide job coaching services as needed. 

Note:  The Project SEARCH Job Developer may be expected to perform other duties as deemed necessary and appropriate by the team. 

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • BA or BS degree preferred. Experience may be substituted on an individual basis. 
  • Prior experience in job or career development preferred.  
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities in a competitive work environment.  
  • Ability to work collaboratively, as a productive team member with the instructor, skills trainers, families, affiliate school, and all agency personnel and stakeholders.   
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills that promote personal relationships with interns, families, host business, Project SEARCH team members, community employers, and outside agencies. 
  • Organizational ability, self-directedness, and initiative. 
  • Knowledge of current “best practices” in the field of supported employment. 
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations/supports offered to businesses and consumers, (i.e. Social Security work incentives and subsidies).
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office products, specifically Outlook, Excel and SharePoint.
  • Possess valid driver's license and access to an insured vehicle you can drive to perfom job duties. 
  • Must have a home computer with internet access.
  • Able to pass all required background checks.
