POSITION SUMMARY: The Chief Medical Officer provides medical leadership and administrative oversight of clinical services at the Health Center sites. This role provides direct patient care on a part-time basis while supervising clinical operations and medical provider staff. The Chief Medical Officer is integrally involved in ensuring patient quality of care and leads the agency's Quality Assurance.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops, reviews, and implements clinical practice guidelines and protocols.
- Organizes and facilitates staff development activities such as clinical practice updates and chronic illness collaborative.
- Reviews clinical practice by developing and participating in medical records audits, peer review, and other practice review activities and assists with clinical data review.
- Provides medical practice oversight for primary care operations in all community health center facilities to include involvement in individual provider practice and primary care program operations.
- Provides input and guidance regarding the after-hours call system.
- Provides medical practice perspective and guidance to primary care partnerships with other organizations and community partners; and participates in partnership contracts and agreements.
- Ensures quality practices are upheld by practice guidelines and staff development; and clinical practice review.
- Assures coordination of activities and clinical practice for medical care and clinical services.
- Participates in & provides medical leadership and perspective in Community Public Health.
- Facilitates and coordinates medical student I resident training opportunities and Quality Assurance committee; assists Clinical Care Committee of the Board of Directors.
- Coordinates with Associate Medical Director regarding nurse practitioner and nursing practice issues in clinical operations and services.
- Provides medical perspective and leadership in critical incident reviews and other medical practice aspects of risk management.
- Provides medical practice perspective regarding billing procedures and lab services.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Knowledge of the principles and practice of preventive medicine.
- Knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to medicine and HHS I HRSA regulations.
- Knowledge of the structure and operations of community health centers and of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC's)
- Competency in dealing with people of various cultures and social status.

- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, board members, patients and the general public.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5- 10 years of clinical experience and 3-5 years of administrative or supervisory experience, preferably in an ambulatory, public health or community setting.
- Graduation from a college or university accredited by the American Medical Association with a Doctor of Medicine degree.
- Successful completion of an approved program of residency training.
- Board Certification in one of the following primary care settings: Family Practice, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine or OB I GYN. Possess current DEA license.
- Knowledge of the principles and practice of preventive medicine.
REQUIRED LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:
- License to practice medicine in Kansas along with current DEA registration.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be willing to travel to local, state and national meetings, conferences, seminars and training seminars as needed.
