Position Overview
The support staff will assist the individual in developing practical life skills, promoting independence, and participating safely in community activities. The individual is non-aggressive and benefits from structured guidance, consistency, and positive reinforcement.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the individual in community-based activities (locations may vary)
- Teach and reinforce personal safety skills
- Support the development of healthy routines, including food choices and physical activity
- Encourage independence and decision-making in daily activities
- Assist with emotional expression and communication skills
- Support money management skills at a basic, functional level
- Promote respectful interactions and positive relationships
- Use positive behavior support strategies as needed
- Provide consistent, patient, and engaging supervision
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with children or adolescents with autism and/or intellectual disabilities
- Background in Community Habilitation, Special Education, ABA, or Behavioral Support preferred
- Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques is a plus
- Strong communication skills and ability to follow a structured support plan
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
- Must be comfortable working in community settings
- Ability to pass required background checks per self-direction guidelines
