JOB TITLE: Accountant
REPORTS TO: Controller
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-Time
STATUS: Salary; Exempt
HOURS: 40 hours per week
SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday; 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
LOCATION: Tampa, FL 33607
FLEXIBLE WORK LOCATION: Eligible (In Office & Remote)
TRAVEL: Local travel may be required
Summary:
The Accountant is a key contributor to the team efforts to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the Foundation’s financial records, timely reporting and analysis of financial results, and maintenance of strong internal controls.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
• Performs the weekly processing and recording of accounts payable and grant payments.
• Review and process invoices for payment.
• Prepares monthly financial reports for internal and external audiences.
• Prepares assigned audit schedules requested by auditors for interim and year-end audit.
• Record depreciation expense and maintain fixed assets schedule.
• Prepare monthly reconciliations as assigned by the Controller, including some investment accounts.
• Assist in preparation and processing of quarterly fund statements.
• Understand and serve as back-up for maintaining the chart of accounts, setting up funds, and other system settings within the Foundations accounting system.
• Coordinate and support month-end and year-end financial close process.
• Identify areas for process improvements and utilization of systems.
• Contribute to department and organizational special projects as assigned.
Knowledge and Experience Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field or four (4) years of equivalent, relevant work experience.
• Experience working at a non-profit and/or community foundation preferred.
• Requires in-depth knowledge of general accounting principles, reconciliations, and documentation techniques.
• Advance understanding of accounting software, experience with Foundant Community Suite a plus.
