This position is part-time consisting of 20 hours per week. The Peer Mutual Support Specialist will be responsible for mutual supporting individuals residing in Franklin County and utilizing resources to help empower and promote recovery and independence. The Peer Mutual Support Specialist will work with other programs internally and externally to help promote independence and integration into the community.


Qualifications:

 

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • NYS Peer Certification prior to working in the position.
  • Reliable and trustworthy, sound decision-making skills.
  • Strong verbal, written and organizational skills.
  • Strong active listening skills.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel).
  • Demonstrated ability to serve individuals and assist interagency and outside agency employees in a professional, welcoming, and efficient manner.
  • Cooperative, friendly, and helpful attitude with individuals and co-workers. Ability to work closely with other employees to ensure a positive, constructive environment within individual programs and overall agency.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding the agency’s functions and individuals receiving services.
  • Must be able to practice professional boundaries with individuals you are working with, fellow employee and partner’s employees always. 
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license, registration, inspection, and insurance that is always active. 
  • Ability to engage and reengage individuals for services. 
  • Must be willing to self-disclose personal recovery.
  • Knowledge of trauma and its effect on an individual.
  • Must positively promote the agency within the community.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Must be able to work to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to clear NYS Justice background check, NYS Office of Children and Family Services background check and clear the NYS staff exclusion list, OIG, and HHS-OIG.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Must complete Mandated Reporter and HIPAA Training within the first week of employment.
  • Must obtain NYS Peer Certification within 6 months from hire date.
  • Must obtain additional CEU’s per New York State Peer Certification board to maintain NYS Peer Certification.
  • Must abide by all agency policies and procedures.
  • Must adhere to professional boundaries with fellow employees, individuals receiving services and partner agency employees.
  • Must continually learn systematic processes for all systems in Franklin County such as, but not limited to housing, food banks, courts, probation, payroll, SNAP benefits, public assistance.
  • Must maintain confidentiality of individuals receiving services and agency operations.
  • Engage in supervision meetings.
  • Attend all required meetings and or trainings requested by the agency and or partner agency.
  • Must completed intake for new people on the first day of service delivery.
  • Must complete progress notes within 24 hours of delivery of service in the TREAT system.
  • Need to utilize active listening skills to get to the root cause of an issue with individuals.
  • Must engage and re-engage individuals to help them achieve positive outcomes.
  • Review social determinants of health with all individuals you are working with to determine if some or all may be having a negative impact on their overall well-being.
  • Devise a plan to remove barriers to connect individuals to services they are in need of.
  • Promote volunteering in the community.
  • Promote connection to groups currently active in the community.
  • Mutually support individual utilizing your own lived experience to help them through life’s challenges.
  • Facilitate the Peer Network Group.
  • Empower individual you are working with through information and education at a level they can comprehend.
  • Maintain confidentiality with everyone you are working with.
