What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Support Specialist - Adult Home and Community Based Services position at NORTHWESTERN COUNSELING & SUPPORT SERVICES INC?
Northwestern Counseling & Support Services is seeking an individual who self-identifies with lived experience rooted in mental health, substance use, and/or trauma. Individuals in this role will undergo training in the Intentional Peer Support (IPS) model while seeking Peer Support Certification as outlined by the state of Vermont. This role is heavily community-based, working collaboratively with individuals aged 18 and older with varying mental health diagnoses or co-occurring disorders.
Service delivery will include direct one-on-one support, group facilitation, and coordination with treatment teams. Direct services provided may include advocacy work, skills development, supporting through mental health crises, and helping individuals to identify and achieve recovery goals. This position will also provide observation and feedback to division leadership on possible improvements.
The peer support role relies heavily on relational frameworks and genuine connection that draws on shared live experiences. Candidates should take an empathetic, person-centered, and recovery-oriented approach to service delivery. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about collaborative relationships, reducing stigma, fostering growth and development, and honoring individual strengths.

Requirements:
- Personal lived experience
- Minimum of high school diploma; relevant work experience or education preferred
- Reliable transportation with the ability to transport clients
- Organizational and computer skills
