Position Overview:
NHTI is seeking a qualified adjunct faculty member to teach Physical Assessment. This course provides students with essential knowledge in physical assessment, focusing on practical applications and real-world relevance.

Course Details:

  • Course Names: Physical Assessment Lecture (PEM-117) and associated Integration Lab I (PEM-161)
  • Credits: Four credits, total (two credits for each course)
  • Lecture Hours: 2 hours, weekly
  • Lab/Practicum Hours: 4 hours, weekly
  • Schedule: Tuesdays 8 am-10 am (lecture) & 2 pm-6 pm (lab)
  • Location: NHTI – Concord’s Community College, Concord, NH 03301

Course Description, Physical Assessment (PEM-117):
A comprehensive course that provides integration of knowledge and terminology utilized for physical assessment. Included are life span differences and assessment of acute and chronic patients who present with medical problems.

Course Description, Integration Lab I (PEM-161):
This scenario-driven course is designed to develop team leadership skills and clinical decision making. Emphasis will be placed on paramedic assessment skills, treatment aims and outcomes. Students will draw from the knowledge and interventions learned in Physical Assessment, Cardiology I, and Advanced Trauma courses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach the assigned course using provided curriculum and instructional materials aligned with program, state, and national standards
  • Facilitate class discussions, assignments, and assessments to foster student engagement and learning
  • Provide regular feedback to students and the program’s Lead Instructor and/or Program Coordinator
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress
  • Maintain courses on the college’s learning management system (LMS), keeping in compliance with ADA Title II, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
  • Maintain professional currency in the field and comply with college policies and standards

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Minimum of associate degree (bachelor’s or higher preferred) from a recognized college or university with a major study in nursing, health, education, emergency medicine, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience as a paramedic, nurse, or advanced medical provider (APRN, PA, MD/OD). Current employment as a medical provider (prehospital preferred). Preference given to applicants with experience in emergency medicine and to applicants with experience as an educator (especially paramedic-level).
  • License/Certification: Licensure as a paramedic (New Hampshire preferred), nurse, or advanced medical provider (APRN, PA, MD/OD). Paramedic applicants must have, or be willing to obtain, EMS Instructor I certification within 1 year. Preference given to applicants holding American Heart Association Instructor certifications in ACLS, PALS, and BLS.
  • Recommended Work Traits: Knowledge of education and accreditation standards (state and national) and principles, methods, techniques, tools and equipment in subjects being taught. Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and as a member of academic department/team. Ability to handle matters with diplomacy and to maintain confidentiality, as appropriate. Ability to exercise professional judgment and proper decision-making. Must be willing to maintain an appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college. NO flexibility for rotating schedules, must be available for all lecture and laboratory sessions.
  • Residency: Must reside in NH, VT, ME, MA, RI, or CT.
