SCOPE OF WORK: Advises students and coordinates a comprehensive program of services to meet the needs of the students with a disability within the framework of the federal regulations, current accepted learning theories, established best practices and available financial resources. This position reports to the Director of Student Success at Lakes Region Community College. This is a full-time year round position working 37.5 hours per week working on campus. ACCOUNTABILITES:
Develops, enforces, and evaluates policies and practices to ensure institutional compliance with LRCC’s mission, the Vocational Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 504, The American with Disabilities Act (1990), the Americans with Disabilities Amendment Act (2008), and other federal, state and local laws/regulations pertaining to persons with disabilities.

Facilitates the inquiries of prospective students, current students, parents, faculty, and staff.

Reviews and interprets diagnostic evaluations, including medical documentation, psychological and neurological psychology reports, Individualized Education Plans (IEP’s) and Section 504 Plans.

Meets with students to assess and develop an accommodation plan. Advises students on specific (student identified) barriers and manages student progress to ensure the ability to learn and engage on campus successfully.

Provides training and ongoing education and consultation/collaboration opportunities for administrators, faculty and staff designed to increase the awareness and responsiveness of the campus community to the needs of students with disabilities.

Maintains appropriate documentation and confidential record systems for those served by the office.

Serves as a mentor to students with disabilities and maintain proper correspondence (pre-entrance and follow-up letters, emails, and phone calls).

Consults with faculty on methods and materials to provide appropriate support services for students with disabilities and works with faculty in their implementation and use.

Coordinates with appropriate agencies to secure services and/or funding for students with disabilities.

Serves on college committees and system-wide committees as necessary.

Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations.

Other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university in education, counseling, psychology, social work, or related discipline.

Experience: Three years' experience in career or academic counseling, teaching, or social work in an educational or human services setting, working on behalf of individuals with disabilities.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated knowledge and experience working in advocacy for individuals with disabilities present in post-secondary education. Emphasis on psychological/psychiatric, physical, and learning disabilities, and the related reasonable accommodations available. Experience in the collection and use of data for legal compliance and assessing outcomes, and the distribution of information and reports internally and externally to the organization. Experience with ADA compliance at the post-secondary level. Knowledge of adult education, assessment, curriculum, program development, and computer-assisted learning.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Demonstrated ability to determine reasonable accommodations for disabilities across the disability spectrum including deaf/hard of hearing, blind/low vision, learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, and cognitive and physical disabilities. Working knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and ADA of 1990 as amended. Ability to read and interpret complex psychological/psychiatric, cognitive, and physical assessments of various disabilities, and thus be able to develop a student’s reasonable accommodation plan from that information. Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships and successfully work with faculty/staff members and with external constituents in a collaborative and supportive work environment. Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills both verbally and in writing. Proficient organizational and decision-making skills. Ability to handle matters with diplomacy and to maintain confidentiality. Ability to maintain comprehensive records of the progress and development of the individual student. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Must be willing to maintain an appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the College’s appointing authority.
