Position summary 


The Infusion RN is responsible for the safe administration and monitoring of infusion therapies for patients with rheumatologic and autoimmune conditions. This role ensures high-quality, patient-centered care through clinical assessment, medication administration, patient education, and ongoing monitoring for adverse reactions. The Infusion RN collaborates closely with providers and care teams to support chronic disease management and optimize patient outcomes.




Essential job functions



  • Administer intravenous (IV), subcutaneous, and intramuscular medications, including biologics and immunosuppressive therapies, in accordance with provider orders and established protocols.

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments prior to, during, and after infusion treatments to ensure patient safety and readiness for therapy.

  • Monitor patients for infusion-related reactions and adverse events; respond promptly and appropriately using clinical protocols and emergency procedures.

  • Initiate, manage, and discontinue IV access, including peripheral IV insertion and maintenance.

  • Educate patients and families on infusion therapies, potential side effects, and post-treatment care.

  • Verify medication orders, dosages, and patient-specific factors to ensure safe administration.

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all infusion-related care in the electronic medical record.

  • Coordinate scheduling and preparation of infusion treatments, ensuring appropriate medication availability and pre-treatment requirements are met.

  • Collaborate with providers, pharmacists, and care teams to support treatment plans and patient outcomes.

  • Manage medication inventory, storage, and handling in compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

  • Maintain infusion area cleanliness, organization, and readiness, including proper handling of equipment and supplies.

  • Triage patient concerns, including pre- and post-infusion questions, using clinical judgment and established guidelines.

  • Support prior authorization processes and coordination related to infusion therapies as needed.

  • Adhere to all regulatory and safety standards, including HIPAA/HITECH, OSHA, CLIA (as applicable), HRSA, and NCQA PCMH guidelines.

Role Specific Essential Skills/Competencies



  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills, particularly in identifying and managing infusion-related reactions.

  • Proficiency in IV therapy, vascular access, and medication administration techniques.

  • Knowledge of biologic agents, immunosuppressive therapies, and rheumatologic disease processes preferred.

  • Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations, including anaphylaxis management.

  • Excellent patient education and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex treatments clearly.

  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple patients and infusion schedules.


 


Required qualifications



  • Active RN License 

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

  • 1 years of infusion experience 


 


Preferred qualifications



  • BSN or MSN

  • Active CRNI Credential 

  • 5 years of clinical nursing experience in rheumatology, autoimmune disease, or chronic care management

  • Bilingual ability in English and either Spanish or Marshallese
