Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Infusion Pharmacist to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in sterile and hazardous compounding, infusion therapies, regulatory compliance, and pharmacy operations. This role is responsible for the preparation, verification, dispensing, and clinical oversight of infusion medications while ensuring adherence to all state, federal, and accreditation standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, compound, and dispense sterile and hazardous medications in accordance with USP <797>, USP <800>, and all applicable regulations.
- Accurately enter, review, and process medication orders in a timely manner.
- Prepare and manage a variety of infusion therapies, demonstrating the ability to evaluate and resolve complex therapy-related orders.
- Direct, coordinate, and supervise pharmacy operations, including drug preparation, sterile compounding, dispensing, and clinical pharmacy services.
- Develop, implement, and maintain pharmacy policies and procedures while ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Lead Quality Management and Performance Improvement initiatives by reviewing quality metrics, analyzing reports, and identifying opportunities for operational enhancement.
- Manage medication and supply inventory, including purchasing, storage, refrigeration requirements, and warehouse functions.
- Monitor, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot pharmacy equipment as required.
- Ensure compliance with all pharmacy state and federal regulations.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, nurses, and facility staff to optimize patient care and medication management.
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Proper handling and preparation of sterile and hazardous medications.
- Expertise in IV infusion therapies and infusion pharmacy operations.
- Strong knowledge of sterile compounding regulations and standards (USP <797> and USP <800>).
- Ability to accurately fill medication orders while maintaining high quality and safety standards.
- Knowledge of pharmacy laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Understanding of pharmaceutical products and complex infusion therapies.
- Experience with inventory management and pharmacy operations.
- Proficiency with pharmacy software systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted New York State Pharmacist License.
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) preferred; Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy required.
- Minimum of one (1) year of full-time pharmacist experience within the last two years.
- Home infusion pharmacy experience preferred.
- Experience with IV infusion therapies required.
- Knowledge of Long-Term Care facilities required.
- Previous Nursing Home experience preferred.
- ASHP-accredited hospital, oncology, or infusion residency preferred.
- PGY1 and/or PGY2 residency preferred.
- Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist (BCOP) preferred.
- Proficiency with pharmacy computer systems and related software applications.
