Pay Rate: $39-$41/hr.
The Senior Nutrition Services Coordinator plays a key role in advancing CAM’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of children and families. This position leads to the coordination of high-quality nutrition services that nurture healthy development, reflect the cultural diversity of our community, and ensure a positive mealtime experience across all program sites. Working closely with the Executive Chef and programming teams, this role champions compliance, food safety, and continuous improvement and strengthening equitable access to nutritious foods every day.

Education

Essential Functions/ Responsibilities
Nutrition Program Leadership
- Lead and continuously improve nutrition services that nurture healthy growth, learning, and lifelong wellness for children and families.
- Partner closely with the Executive Chef to design menus that celebrate cultural diversity, highlight fresh and seasonal ingredients, and align with USDA, CACFP, Head Start, and California Department of Aging requirements.
- Serve as the program’s nutrition expert — assessing meal quality, presentation, portioning, storage, and safety to ensure an exceptional mealtime experience at every site.
- Collaborate with Family Well-being and Education teams to weave nutrition learning into daily routines, classroom lessons, and home-based visits.
- Provide compassionate guidance and individualized feeding plans that respect the unique medical, developmental, and cultural needs of each child.
- Build strong relationships with parents and caregivers, offering credible and accessible nutrition education and resources.
- Maintain reliable, timely, and accurate documentation to support program compliance, audits, and child health records.
- Lead the coordination of CACFP eligibility, documentation, and meal service requirements to maximize reimbursement and maintain full compliance.
- Conduct proactive monitoring at program sites, identifying strengths, addressing risks, and providing tailored coaching to support quality improvement.
- Analyze recipes and serving sizes to match developmental needs and regulatory guidelines for all age groups.
- Ensure accurate reconciliation of Meal & Milk Count records and timely correction of any discrepancies.
- Stay informed of CACFP policy updates and lead implementation efforts agency-wide, serving as the subject-matter expert for staff and leadership.
- Develop and deliver engaging training that empowers staff, parents, and volunteers to uphold proper food handling, safety, nutrition standards, and allergy protocols.
- Conduct purposeful site visits that reinforce healthy, safe, and compliant mealtime practices.
- Offer ongoing coaching and technical support that strengthens staff confidence and elevates program excellence across all locations.
- Identify opportunities for system improvements and collaborate with leaders to implement sustainable best practices.
- Foster meaningful connections with families, stakeholders, and local organizations to expand knowledge and access to healthy foods.
- Represent CAM in community forums, sharing expertise and advocating for equitable nutrition and food security.
- Support integration of garden-to-classroom initiatives and partnerships with local suppliers to deepen children’s connection to food and culture.
- Amplify nutrition as a joyful, inclusive, and culturally honoring part of the CAM experience.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition or a related field required.
- Registered Dietitian or Nutritionist credential required.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience delivering nutrition services in child- or family-centered programs.
- Experience supporting children with special dietary or developmental needs strongly preferred.
- Ability to engage effectively with families, staff, and community stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of food allergies, individualized nutrition planning, and culturally relevant practices.
- Demonstrated knowledge of CACFP regulations and USDA standards required.
- Ability to monitor food service practices and develop responsive training.
- Fingerprint/background clearance (DOJ, Child Abuse Index, etc.).
- Employment physical and TB clearance within 7 days of hire.
- CPR/First Aid certification strongly preferred.
- Valid CA driver’s license and reliable transportation for site travel.
