Summary:

Under the supervision of the Weatherization Director, the Energy Auditor performs multiple duties within the Weatherization Program which serves Woodbury and Monona Counties. Responsibilities include: home energy audits, preparing work orders and bids related to energy audits, inspecting completed jobs, assisting with monthly closeouts of weatherized homes, maintaining client and contractor files, maintaining client priority lists, scheduling appointments and other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

· Inspect and analyze building envelope, HVAC systems, heating systems, electrical, plumbing and all other aspects of building characteristics that may be considered for energy conservation and/ or health & safety improvements.

· Utilize knowledge of International Mechanical and Building Codes.

Utilize State Weatherization Standards to ensure the agency and contractors are complying with program policies and procedures

· Perform diagnostic testing for the purpose of identifying energy conservation potential and unsafe or hazardous conditions. Including blower door testing, zonal pressure diagnostics, combustion analysis, thermal imaging, fan flow testing etc.

· Utilize Audit/ Inspection Form to accurately document building characteristics, building measurements, diagnostic testing results etc.

· Assess indoor air quality based on ASHRAE 62.2 Indoor Air Quality Standards and determine the need for home ventilation.

· Perform Manual J calculations.

· Utilize the computerized National Energy Audit Tool (NEAT) and Mobile Home Energy Audit (MHEA) tool to determine if the cost effectiveness of proposed energy conservation measures falls within the program guidelines.

· Utilize the agency’s reporting software (THO) to access client information and report weatherization services performed for specific clients.

Utilize WAMS reporting system

· Analyze energy consumption of low-income participants and provide them with the knowledge to make choices that positively impact their energy bills and reduce their overall energy burden.

· Maintain equipment & tools used to perform energy audits as well as the agency vehicle.

· Attend meetings with the State of Iowa Weatherization program and with other agencies.

· Travel is required both in and outside the service area.

· Obtain Lead Safe Renovator Certification within 90 days.

· Complete required technical training and State of Iowa weatherization courses.

· Obtain BPI Energy Auditor certification

· Obtain QCI certification

· A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record is required.

· Must be able to relate to and communicate effectively with varied socio-economic multiethnic individuals and/or groups, as well as construction, HVAC, plumbing and heating, and other construction trade personnel.

· Computer proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Office products

· Successful completion of State and Federal background checks

High school diploma or equivalent and three years’ experience in residential energy conservation, home performance, or construction is highly desirable. Possess or be willing to attain current Building Performance Institute (BPI) Energy Auditor certification and OCI certifications.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

· Physical exertion required: climbing heights; must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

· Must be able to crawl, climb, and otherwise move about in confined spaces such as: attics, basements, knee wall areas and crawl spaces, often in dusty and dirty work sites.

· Ability to maintain professionalism while working in substandard housing conditions including the possibility of strong odors, mold, cockroaches, bedbugs or other pests and unsanitary housing conditions.

· Occasional exposure to extreme cold, extreme heat and seasonal outdoor conditions.
