Communicare is a community mental health center in North Central Mississippi that serves Calhoun, Lafayette, Marshall, Panola, Tate and Yalobusha counties. Communicare offers specialized treatment services for adults with serious mental illness, children with serious emotional disturbances, individuals with substance abuse disorders and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The accountant position is responsible for processing reports and handling accounting procedures in compliance with all non-profit requirements and accounting law. In addition, they will interpret and communicate fiscal operations of the organization to provide information and guidance on the financial state of the organization.

The accountant position is responsible for processing reports and handling accounting procedures in compliance with all non-profit requirements and accounting law. In addition, they will interpret and communicate fiscal operations of the organization to provide information and guidance on the financial state of the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Maintains all official accounting records in conformance with generally accepted government accounting principles.
- Ensures responsibility for maintaining General Ledger, setting up new accounts and cost centers when required and ensuring reconciliation of control accounts.
- Completes annual agency budget by program, working closely with the Executive Director and the Director of Administrative Services.
- Ensures compliance with annual federal non-profit reports, keeping agency abreast of latest updates and changes.
- Completes quarterly Mississippi employment security reports.
- Completes monthly and as needed analytical reports for all agency programs.
- Assists with accounting processing in Abila (accounting program).
- Reconciles bank statement monthly.
- Handles agency surveys and requests for agency information from state and federal government agencies (i.e., census, unemployment, agency sites, federal/state surveys, etc.).
- Completes audit reports and tables for independent agency auditor in a timely and efficient manner.
- Reviews financial strategies and makes recommendations.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Executive Director.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, four to five years of accounting finance experience. Experience in non-profits preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
MBA.
