The Energy Programs Office within the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is excited to announce an opportunity for a motivated and forward-thinking professional to join its team. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will take the lead in managing Pennsylvania’s State Energy Program (SEP), ensuring that all activities align with the U.S. Department of Energy’s strategic goals and funding requirements for this annual grant. As part of the DEP Energy Programs Office—Pennsylvania’s designated State Energy Office—you will help advance initiatives that support energy efficiency, greenhouse gas reduction, energy assurance, and renewable energy development across the Commonwealth. Working closely with fellow EPO staff, you will oversee SEP-funded projects and guide the deployment of innovative energy technologies that strengthen Pennsylvania’s clean energy future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure full compliance with U.S. Department of Energy State Energy Program (SEP) grant requirements and reporting standards.
  • Manage and oversee individual SEP-funded projects in coordination with Energy Programs Office staff.
  • Support the deployment of technologies such as renewable energy systems, energy efficiency and management tools, distributed energy resources, and virtual power plants.
  • Monitor and guide the use of SEP funds to advance statewide energy efficiency, emissions reduction, and energy assurance objectives.
  • Serve as a subject-matter resource on SEP requirements, helping shape project design, implementation, and evaluation.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position will require overnight travel as needed.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of professional experience in energy resources, energy utilization and conservation, energy technologies, or the economic impacts of energy issues, and a bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Engineering, Physical Sciences, or Energy Policy; or
  • Three years of professional experience in energy resources, energy utilization and conservation, energy technologies, or the economic impacts of energy issues and a bachelor's degree; or
  • A master's degree in Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Engineering, Physical Sciences, or Energy Policy; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
