DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports the health needs of inmates by carrying out essential nursing care and daily treatment activities. The role ensures consistent care, proper documentation, and timely response to medical needs. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will perform the following duties:
- Patient Care: Provide hands-on nursing support including vital signs, medication administration, treatments, and daily living assistance
- Health Observation: Identify patient needs through observation and report changes in physical or emotional status
- Emergency Response: Respond to urgent medical situations and deliver first aid, CPR, or AED as appropriate
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate electronic health records, prepare reports, and ensure proper documentation for transfers and releases
- Supplies Management: Sterilize instruments, manage inventories, and maintain adequate medical stock levels
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 40-hour work week.
- The Department of Corrections is staffed by three (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
- 1st shift: 6:00 am to 2:30 pm
- 2nd shift: 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm
- 3rd shift: 10:00 pm to 6:30 am
- Work hours TO BE DETERMINED.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $67,558.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary Special Requirements:
- This position requires active authorization to practice as a Licensed Practice Nurse in Pennsylvania.
- All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- If you are within 60 days of completing a licensed practical nursing program approved by the State Board of Nursing, you are eligible to apply for this job posting. At the time of appointment to a position, you must show proof of possession of a current, valid PA temporary practice permit or PA Licensed Practical Nurse license.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
