Game Lands Maintenance Worker 1

As a Game Lands Maintenance Worker 1 for the Pennsylvania Game Commission, you help maintain and improve lands that support wildlife and outdoor recreation. In this role, you will operate heavy equipment, construct and repair infrastructure, manage habitat projects, assist with prescribed fires, and work across forests, fields, and rugged terrain to support healthy ecosystems and public access.

As a Game Lands Maintenance Worker 1, you will focus on maintaining and improving game land facilities, wildlife habitats, and public access areas. This hands-on, outdoor focused position is an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy meaningful work that supports conservation and outdoor recreation activities. With our team, you will perform the following duties:

• Infrastructure Work: Maintain and repair roads, bridges, gates, and signs across game lands
• Habitat Management: Carry out mowing, cutting, planting, and other field tasks for stewardship of habitat areas
• Equipment Operation: Operate heavy machinery, tools, and vehicles for field projects
• Fire and Safety Support: Assist with prescribed burns and follow safety practices in all conditions
• Trail and Access Care: Develop and upkeep trails, parking areas, and public access features

Work Schedule and Additional Information: 

• Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. This position may be eligible for Alternate Work Schedules (AWS). 
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year of laboring experience using construction tools and equipment; or 
• One year of farming experience using agricultural tools and equipment; or 
• One year of construction equipment operation experience; or 
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

• You must possess an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
• You must obtain an active Class A Commercial Driver’s License within one year of employment in this job.

Additional Requirement:

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
