DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports the safe operation of equipment used to open, close, and secure doors and grilles within the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Phoenix. Your work will help protect employees, inmates, and visitors. As a Corrections Locksmith, you will perform the following duties:
- Lock System Maintenance: Inspect and repair mechanical, electronic, and pneumatic lock systems to keep them functioning properly
- Key Production: Create and track keys while maintaining accurate records of issued, damaged, and lost keys
- Inventory Management: Determine needed tools and materials and maintain an adequate stock of parts and supplies
- Inmate Oversight: Guide inmates performing non-security related tasks such as moving materials and repairing door components
- Safety Procedures: Search inmates and work areas to prevent the presence of contraband
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925.00 (before taxes). A higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of experience in the locksmith trade; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
