The Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking a Semi-Skilled Laborer at Torrance State Hospital. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports the maintenance of hospital grounds and facilities through outdoor work, equipment operation, and general labor tasks. As a Semi-Skilled Laborer, you will perform the following duties:
- Grounds Care: Maintain lawns, trees, shrubs, flower beds, walkways, and outdoor areas
- Snow Removal: Clear snow and ice from walkways, ramps, docks, and steps during winter months
- Equipment Handling: Operate lawn equipment, hand tools, chain saws, and snow blowers as assigned
- Furniture Hauling: Load, unload, deliver, and store furniture and equipment throughout the facility
- Labor Assistance: Support skilled trades staff with digging trenches, mixing mortar, cleaning drains, and other manual tasks
- Waste Transport: Perform pickup and delivery of infectious waste according to facility procedures

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Condition of Employment:
- You must be in possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
Other Requirements:

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
- A conditional offer of employment will require medical examination.

This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
- Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
