THE POSITION
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports the regulation of public drinking water systems to uphold safety and compliance across assigned areas. The role focuses on inspections, reporting, and guidance for water suppliers. As a Sanitarian, you will perform the following duties:
- Survey Inspections: Conduct sanitary surveys and follow-up inspections of public water systems and review findings with suppliers
- Compliance Review: Identify violations, prepare notices, and issue field orders to address urgent public health concerns
- Emergency Response: Respond to water system emergencies including contamination events, floods, and treatment failures
- Technical Guidance: Provide direction to water system owners and operators in understanding and applying regulations
- Record Management: Input inspection results and maintain organized records across multiple data systems
- Sample Collection: Collect water samples for laboratory and field analysis during inspections and investigations
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Travel required for site visits
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. You will have to report in office 1 day per month. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Ebensburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
- Successful completion of the training program for the Sanitarian Trainee; or
- Any combination of experience and/or training which affords the applicant the required knowledges and abilities.
- You must be in possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
