DESCRIPTION OF WORK

County Social Services Aide 1 is an entry level position and works closely with caseworkers and other social service aides. You will provide services in the home to families with children after a caseworker has visited and determined which services are needed. This is an excellent opportunity for one-on-one assistance in all areas of family life and communication with families to work toward positive goals and outcomes.

As a County Social Services Aide 1, you will learn and be trained to perform the following duties:

  • Parenting Education:
    Teach parenting skills to help create family routines, trust, and stability
  • Home Skills Training: Provide instruction on proper hygiene, nutrition, cooking and food shopping skills, and maintenance of the home; help families set up and follow a budget
  • Record Keeping: Write a report of each appointment with consumers; attend court and testify, if needed
  • Collaborative Teamwork: Participate in meetings with other staff to develop treatment plans and set goals for consumers
  • Responsive Assistance: Manage multiple tasks, meet strict deadlines, and pay close attention to details under a constantly changing work environment
  • Additional Support: Work may include providing childcare when necessary; assisting consumers with completing applications and forms; transporting consumers to supervised visitation and necessary appointments; and clerical office duties as needed

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch. Possible after-hours appointments for supervised visitation and transportation.
  • Possible travel requiring overnight stays.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Graduation from high school; or
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:
  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
