The Department for Public Health (DPH), Division of Administration and Financial Management (AFM), is seeking a Medicaid/Medicare Services Specialist III for our Local Health Operations (LHO) branch. This position will serve as the lead medical coding specialist. It will also interact with all 120 counties in the state of Kentucky and build relationships with those that work in the Local Health Departments (LHDs) in the state. This position will perform medical coding audits, keep all coding information in the system up to date and provide coding training to all health departments. You will also assist with User Meetings, system security requests and process service fee overrides.
Responsibilities And Duties
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Four years of experience in Medicaid or Medicare program administration, health insurance administration/systems, eligibility systems, health care research, health care planning, health care financial management, health care policy development, human service or health care administration, insurance billing and/or claims, or research, review, and analysis of legislation or regulations.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in the above areas will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis. Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required college on a year-for year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Working Conditions
Incumbents working in this job title primarily perform duties in an office setting.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.

- Answer coding questions
- Create a yearly coding training
- Serve as back up to system security
- Perform onsite coding compliance reviews
- Assist with Yearly User Meetings
- Update DPH Administrative Reference (AR)
- Prepare reports
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Prefer a candidate with Certified Professional Coder (CPC) Certification
- Experience in medical billing and coding
- Good customer service skills
- Experience in training
- Proficient in Microsoft products, including Teams and Excel
