Description
The Kentucky Horse Park is seeking qualified applicants for the position of KHP Event Coordinator. The chosen candidate’s primary responsibility will be to assist with equine and non-equine events at the Kentucky Horse Park. The Event Coordinator will assist clients before, during and after events to ensure a successful event.
Located within minutes of downtown Lexington, Kentucky Horse Park is a 1,224-acre working horse farm, equine theme park, and internationally renowned equine competition facility. Founded in 1978, the Park is owned and operated by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and attracts over 1 million visitors from around the world annually. The Park also boasts a 260-site campground and is home to the International Museum of the Horse, a Smithsonian affiliate.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of event management, customer service and conflict resolution skills.
Key Responsibilities
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor’s degree
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have two years of business or administrative experience, one year must have been in scheduling or coordinating shows or events.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Business or administrative experience will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis. Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): If employed in the Kentucky Department of Parks or the Kentucky Horse Park, must be twenty years and one day of age at time of employment. If employed in the Kentucky Department of Parks or the Kentucky Horse Park, must obtain S.T.A.R. (Server Training in Alcohol Regulations) certification from the Kentucky Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control within six months of employment.
Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Incumbents working in this job typically work long hours with daily exposure to dirt and noise.

Key Responsibilities
- Effectively communicate with current and potential clients regarding event needs
- Ensuring client needs are met by coordinating needs with event, food restrictions – caterer, food trucks and other park staff
- Physically working events; typically, nights and weekends
- Create accurate billing information for approval
- Other duties as assigned
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- QuickBooks experience is a plus
- Must be able to multi-task and solve complex issues quickly and effectively
- Must be able to work effectively with other departments
- Experience in the horse industry is a plus, but not a requirement
