The Fayette District Court, Division 3, has an opening for a Court Administrator in Fayette County. The Court Administrator is responsible for providing administrative assistance to the Fayette District Court Judges, direct report to the Chief District Court Judge.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provides administrative and operational support to assigned judges and assists with their daily court duties and routines.
  • Monitors case flow to promote the timely and efficient processing of cases and recommends improvements to court operations and case-management procedures.
  • Manages monthly jury-pool operations, including jury orientation, juror summonses, correspondence, attendance, and related records.
  • Supervises and supports assigned Legal Assistants, including coordinating work assignments and leave schedules, reviewing documents and schedules, managing time and attendance, and providing guidance and training.
  • Serves as a primary liaison among judges, attorneys, court personnel, the Circuit Clerk, law enforcement, detention facilities, outside agencies, and the public.
  • Coordinates directly with the Circuit Clerk, Sheriff, detention center, and other justice-system partners regarding court policies, procedures, scheduling, and daily operations.
  • Prepares meeting agendas, attends meetings, records or communicates relevant information, and coordinates follow-up activities.
  • Prepares and maintains judges’ weekly, monthly, and annual calendars and schedules.
  • At the direction of a judge, prepares, formats, processes, and proofreads orders, opinions, motions, memoranda, correspondence, proposed jury instructions, and other court-related documents.
  • Conducts legal and administrative research as assigned in support of judges and court operations.
  • Compiles statistical, operational, jury, and other court-related reports.
  • Assists with the recruitment, review, and selection of applicants and the onboarding and training of new court personnel within Chambers.
  • Coordinates courtroom scheduling for court proceedings, meetings, and approved use by outside agencies and organizations.
  • Coordinates office operations, including maintaining records, ordering supplies, responding to telephone and electronic communications, and distributing court documents and files.
  • Provides basic user assistance for office technology and coordinates technical issues with the appropriate information technology staff.
  • Provides administrative coverage and support for Legal Assistants and other court personnel when they are absent or unavailable.
  • Assists with civil wedding preparations and other judicial administrative functions as assigned.
  • Establishes and maintains effective professional relationships with judges, Court of Justice officials and employees, attorneys, justice-system partners, outside agencies, and the public.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not required.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Two years of professional and organizational management experience preferred.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional related education or work experience will substitute for the minimum requirements on a year-for-year basis.

Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in an office setting and requires regular attendance on-site at the designated work location. Computer skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to maintain professional relationships with coworkers, Court of Justice officials and staff, and the public.
