The Office of Fleet Management is looking for an ASE Certified automotive mechanical repair technician. Below is a summary of the responsibilities and knowledge needed for this position.
Key Responsibilities
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have five years of automotive and/or equipment repair technical experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Vocational or technical school training in automotive/truck repair or a related area will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this classification. Must be Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified in any three of the medium/ heavy truck or automobile test series, one of which must be diesel engines, gasoline engines, or engine repair. Must be ASE certified in AC recovery. http://www.ase.com. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Description
The Office of Fleet Management is looking for an ASE Certified automotive mechanical repair technician. Below is a summary of the responsibilities and knowledge needed for this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Performs complex automotive mechanical repairs, preventive maintenance, diagnostics in an automotive repair and maintenance garage environment.
- Provides senior grade training assistance and mentorship to less experienced automotive mechanics.
- Observes and advises shop supervisor of the quality of repairs being performed.
- Performs major mechanical repairs and computer diagnostics on powertrain management systems.
- Conducts the removal, mechanical repair or replacement of major mechanical component assemblies such as engines, transmissions, transfer cases and drive axle assemblies.
- Performs precise diagnosis and mechanical repairs on automotive system modules and electronics utilizing the most current diagnostic equipment, utilize their knowledge and experience to mentor, train and assist all other team members when needed.
- Must possess expert level brake systems knowledge and skills.
- Performs accurate analysis and mechanical repairs to correct automotive drivability issues including drivetrain and driveline components and suspension.
- Performs accurate troubleshooting repair and service on automotive heating ventilation and air conditioning systems utilizing the most current service and test equipment.
- Performs preventive maintenance procedures including oil changes, vehicle inspections, tire rotations, tire mounting and balancing.
- Extensive automotive mechanical repair experience with ASE certifications
- Good computer skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
