ABOUT THE ROLE
To continue advancing the impact we have across the communities we serve, Commonpoint is hiring a Lifeguard situated within the Pool Clubs.
Across the agency, our seasonal and part-time staff play a crucial role in driving our initiatives forward by supporting daily operations, program delivery, and organizational goals.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Agency Expectations:
Support agency initiatives by carrying out assigned duties accurately and efficiently, while following established processes and contributing to basic data collection, reporting, or documentation as required.
Use agency resources responsibly by following established procedures, safeguarding equipment and materials, and/or supporting cost-effective operations.
Work effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and cross-department teams to ensure clear communication, timely task completion, and a positive, respectful work environment.
Follow all safety protocols, policies, and procedures to maintain a safe work environment for staff, partners, and the public, and promptly report concerns or incidents.
Role Expectations:
Supervises swimming activities at the aquatics facility and ensures that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed.
Warns swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforces pool regulations and water safety policies.
Administers first aid in the event of injury rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary.
Evaluates conditions for safety and initiates aquatics emergency action plan as required.
Inspects pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable.
Supervises and assists in cleaning the pool and related facilities and equipment, assists with chlorine residual water tests and with records and charts of water tests and records of accidents, and adds chemicals to pool water as directed.
Instructs or assists classes in the fundamentals of swimming as needed.
Resolves scheduling conflicts to ensure a safe pool environment when competing programs/priorities require the use of aquatic facilities.
Job duties are subject to change based on changing needs.
QUALIFICATIONS & KEY ATTRIBUTES:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Current American Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid, & CPR certification
Must be at least 15 years of age
Strong knowledge of water safety practices, pool rules, and emergency procedures
Ability to recognize hazardous conditions and respond quickly and effectively
Ability to remain alert, attentive, and proactive in a high-risk environment
Basic understanding of pool maintenance procedures, including water testing and chemical safety (training can be provided)
Ability to enforce rules and communicate clearly and professionally with patrons of all ages
Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
Ability to assist with swim instruction or aquatic programming as needed
Must be reliable, responsible, and punctual
Ability to work independently and as part of a team

WORKING CONDITIONS & JOB DETAILS
Consider the following:
Position is typically seasonal or part-time, based on aquatics facility needs
Work is performed in an indoor and/or outdoor pool environment, with exposure to sun, heat, humidity, and water conditions
Requires the ability to stand, sit, and remain alert for extended periods of time while actively supervising swimmers
Must be able to enter the water quickly and perform rescues, including lifting or assisting patrons in distress
Involves physical activity, including swimming, bending, lifting equipment, and assisting with facility maintenance
Responsible for maintaining constant surveillance of the pool area to ensure safety and compliance
Includes assisting with pool cleaning, equipment maintenance, and water testing/chemical monitoring
Requires accurate record-keeping, including incident reports and water testing logs
Schedule may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
May involve supporting swim lessons or aquatic programs as needed
Requires the ability to manage multiple priorities, including resolving scheduling or space conflicts in the pool area
Must consistently enforce safety rules and respond to emergencies, including activating Emergency Action Plans (EAP)
Frequent interaction with members, guests, and staff requires strong customer service and communication skills
Expected to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays during the pool season

Pool Club Dates: 5/15/2026-9/10/2026
Working schedule: 20hr - 35hrs per week
