Part Time Youth Program Educator Position Summary


We are looking for 2 creative and energetic individuals to join our LEAF after-school program team.  LEAF (Learning for the Environment, Agriculture, and Food) is a drop in youth program designed for elementary age students that live in the surrounding area of Common Good City Farm.  The program offers hands-on learning including garden science, nutrition, working in our youth garden, making art for the farm and preparing recipes using fresh produce.  The program takes place in our outdoor farm space. The Youth Program Educators will primarily support program hours with setup, facilitation of class, youth engagement and cleanup with some weekly work in planning, outreach, data entry and advance preparations.


Job Responsibilities

Job responsibilities of the Youth Program Educators, under the direction of the Director of Programs/ Deputy Director, will include:

  • Attend any program dates where you are scheduled including arriving on time for set up and staying through clean up
  • Facilitate lessons to primarily elementary age youth: lessons may include hands-on farm work, farm exploration, art projects, cooking, and nutrition
  • Work with other instructors to set and enforce behavior standards and positively manage behavioral issues within the group and with individual students
  • Set-up and break down of LEAF class and youth garden hours
  • Assist with training, supervising and coordinating LEAF program volunteers
  • Assist with supplies planning and acquisition
  • Assist with maintenance of youth garden
  • Assist with marketing and outreach plans
  • Assist with data collection and management

 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the community, experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds
  • Knowledge of (or willingness to learn) trauma informed education and positive youth development practices
  • Experience or interest in urban agriculture, garden science or nutrition education
  • Ability to work outside, even in adverse weather conditions
  • Creative, energetic, organized and reliable
  • Ability to complete a background check



Schedule/ Salary

These are part time seasonal positions.  Position can start immediately upon hire and will go through Sunday November 15, 2026. Total hours per week will depend on schedules but are expected to range from 8-12 hours per week.

Applicants should be available during at least 2 of the program hours listed below, and ideally have flexibility to cover additional days as needed.

Sundays 4-6:30 pm,

Tuesdays 4-6:30 pm, 

Wednesdays 3-7 pm and 

Thursdays 4-6:30 pm.  


This position is paid at a rate of $21.55 per hour. Sick leave and paid time off are accrued on a prorated basis.  Additional staff benefits include a produce benefit at the weekly market during the growing season. Health insurance is not included for this position.
