What are the responsibilities and job description for the Night Shelter Support position at COMMITTEE ON TEMPORARY SHELTER?
COTS is looking for compassionate, dependable people to join our Overnight Shelter Team at our waystation, a low-barrier, emergency shelter for single adults. This position is ideal for night owls, students, caregivers, or anyone who wants to contribute to a mission-driven team.
In this role, you'll be a steady, caring presence during the night shift, ensuring guests are safe, the space is secure, and that every person is treated with dignity and respect. Most of your shift will be spent in a low-activity setting.
FULL-TIME Shifts available: (Part-time opportunities for the right candidate(s))
- FullTime: 12:00 am8:00 am, 5 nights/week
- Pay: $24.07 $24.69 based on experience PLUS $2 Shift differential

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING:
- Perform regular safety walkthroughs of the building and grounds
- Offer a friendly, welcoming presence as guests wake up and leave for the day
- Document and communicate any concerns or incidents to the morning team
- Light cleaning as you close the waystation for the day
- Collaborate with community resources, including BPD and Howard Center
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school degree or equivalent required
- Customer service experience; prior experience in human services preferred but not required.
- Able to support individuals facing mental health, medical, substance use, or employment challenges.
- Experience with (or willingness to learn) Deescalation and crisis management techniques)
