Research Fellow (NGO Monitor & CAMERA collaboration) Jointly, NGO Monitor (a project of The Institute for NGO Research) and CAMERA (Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting and Analysis) seek a research fellow – either a student or a recent graduate – for a six-month position to conduct research and produce materials that will examine Middle East news coverage of selected NGOs at two mainstream media outlets from Oct. 7, 2023 to the present. Key responsibilities include: ● Working in coordination with CAMERA staff to monitor daily news coverage from the two outlets relevant to the activity of the selected NGOs. ● Meeting regularly with key stakeholders to receive guidance and track progress. ● Delivering time-linked milestones involving the submission of short summaries/reports, draft chapters, and/or essays for publication. ● Completing a final project – to be co-published/co-signed by NGOM and CAMERA – in the form of a research report that will serve as an enduring record of the accomplishments. Alternatively, the Fellow will complete multiple shorter pieces for submission to an online platform. ● Presenting the project and findings at a minimum of one public event jointly sponsored by NGOM and CAMERA. Key requirements include: ● Deep knowledge of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, including the various players and sources of information ● Excellent research and analytical skills ● High quality writing, with ability to organize large amounts of material, make compelling arguments and articulate eloquently ● Good understanding of ethical journalism, with a keen eye for identifying lapses and shortcomings. ● Integrating feedback from key stakeholders. ● Ability to accommodate different time zones (ET and IST) for weekly meetings The fellow will report to two supervisors: NGO Monitor’s Director of Research and CAMERA’s Director of Research & Media Analysis. On a routine basis, the fellow will work closely with senior members of CAMERA’s research team. All jointly published/signed materials must be approved by both NGOM and CAMERA. The position may be part-time (2 or 2.5 days/week) or full-time, with compensation to be determined accordingly.
