Position Summary

The Industrial Paint & Finishing Technician is responsible for preparing, painting, assembling, and finishing manufactured components to meet company quality standards. This position requires experience operating HVLP and conventional spray equipment, performing surface preparation, mixing coatings, inspecting finished products, and supporting assembly and secondary operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities (Tasks performed to achieve accountabilities)

  • Perform sanding and masking on plastic parts.
  • Maintain and promote Quality at the Source principles.
  • Verify correct supplies and parts before applying primer and base coat according to job specifications.
  • Maintain painting equipment, including cleaning spray guns, respirator hoods, pressure pots, and related tools.
  • Report malfunctioning equipment or maintenance concerns to leadership.
  • Conduct visual inspections of all parts prior to painting.
  • Mix paint while adhering to all safety and quality standards.
  • Communicate quality, safety, and delivery concerns to leadership in a timely manner.
  • Perform sanding, masking, inserting, milling, and drilling operations as required.
  • Operate automated robotic equipment and assist with paint line and assembly line activities.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow housekeeping standards.
  • Flush pressure pots and spray guns with approved cleaning solutions between jobs and at the end of each shift.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as required.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Basic English reading and comprehension skills.
  • Ability to work overtime as business needs require.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with HVLP, airless, and conventional spray systems used for high-quality industrial finishes.

Preferred Skills and Competencies

  • Spray gun and paint booth experience.
  • Knowledge of surface preparation.
  • Ability to mix paints and coatings.
  • Understanding of finish quality standards.
  • Experience painting plastic components preferred.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or production environment preferred.
  • Ability to identify and correct paint defects, including runs, orange peel, fisheyes, and coverage issues.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Effective problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot issues independently and escalate when necessary.
  • Strong sense of accountability and professional judgment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Lift up to 55 pounds to shoulder height on a regular basis without assistance.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds overhead occasionally.
  • Push, pull, bend, twist, and stoop frequently throughout the workday.
  • Grip and hold parts and hand tools continuously during an 8-hour shift.
  • Operate manual, pneumatic, and powered hand tools.
  • Work with small parts, including components as small as ¼-inch diameter bolts.
  • Maintain strong hand and wrist dexterity.
  • Visually inspect products and components for quality.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Respond appropriately to visual and audible signals.
  • Frequently, ascend and descend ladders up to 5 feet in height.

Work Environment

  • Work is regularly performed in a manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts may occur.
  • Potential exposure to chemicals, electrical hazards, fumes, airborne particles, heat, and moderate noise levels.
  • Use of required personal protective equipment is mandatory.

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
