Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers with flatbed and Conestoga equipment on over-the-road (OTR) routes, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Transport refrigerated freight, hazardous materials, or other specialized cargo using appropriate trailer types such as tanker or flatbed, following all hazardous materials regulations when applicable.
- Navigate routes efficiently using GPS navigation systems, planning optimal paths to meet delivery schedules while maintaining safety standards.
- Load and unload freight manually or with equipment, ensuring proper cargo handling and securement according to logistics cargo handling procedures.
- Deliver freight to various destinations across regional or national routes, maintaining professionalism and customer service excellence during each interaction.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the truck and trailer, checking for mechanical issues, load security, and compliance with DOT regulations.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, cargo documentation, and delivery records in accordance with FMCSA regulations.
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, particularly with tractor-trailers such as flatbeds, tankers, or refrigerated trailers.
- Strong knowledge of over-the-road (OTR) driving routes and route planning using GPS navigation tools.
- Familiarity with manual transmission trucks and manual handling techniques for cargo loading and unloading.
- Understanding of hazardous materials regulations (Hazmat) when transporting dangerous goods or hazardous substances.
- Ability to handle logistics cargo handling efficiently while adhering to safety protocols for truck loading/unloading.
- Excellent driving skills with a focus on safety, compliance with FMCSA and DOT regulations, and defensive driving techniques.
- Experience in delivery driving within a fast-paced logistics environment, demonstrating reliability and punctuality on long-haul routes.
