Position summary :

A StressEngineer will be responsible for analyzing the stresses and strains onaircraft structures under various loading conditions, using specializedsoftware to ensure the design integrity of the aircraft components and meetsafety standards, essentially determining how much force an aircraft part canwithstand before failure during flight operations; this role is critical inensuring the structural soundness of airplanes and is often involved in thedesign and testing phases of new aircraft development.

Key responsibilities :

Structural analysis :

  • Performing stress analysis usingcomputer-aided engineering (CAE) tools like Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tocalculate the stresses and strains on aircraft components like wings, fuselage,landing gear, and control surfaces under various loading scenarios (lift, drag,thrust, gusts, etc.).

Design optimization :

  • Collaborating with design engineers toidentify areas of high stress and suggest design modifications to improvestructural integrity while maintaining weight considerations.
  • Material selection :

  • Selecting appropriate materials for aircraftcomponents based on their strength, stiffness, and weight properties towithstand anticipated stresses.
  • Testing and validation :

  • Interpreting results from structural testing(static, fatigue, vibration) to validate design assumptions and ensurecompliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Documentation :

  • Preparing detailed reports and technicaldocumentation outlining analysis results, design justifications, and compliancewith certification standards.
  • Load definition :

  • Defining and applying appropriate loads tothe aircraft model based on aerodynamic calculations, flight conditions, andenvironmental factors.
  • Required skills andqualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering,Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Proficiency in FEA software for stressanalysis
  • Strong understanding of structural mechanics,materials science, and aircraft design principles
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solvingskills
  • Familiarity with aviation regulations andcertification requirements
  • Ability to work effectively in a teamenvironment and communicate technical concepts clearly
