As part of the Ferguson-Florissant "New Chapter," you will be at the forefront of our commitment to equity and innovation. From murals that reflect our community to digital portfolios that showcase growth, you will be joining a fantastic team that believes art is essential to the human experience.

Role Summary

As an Elementary Art Teacher, you will lead a comprehensive visual arts program for students in our primary (K-2) or intermediate (3-5) buildings. You will design and implement a curriculum that explores diverse media, art history, and contemporary creative practices. Working collaboratively with school staff, you will ensure that art is integrated into the school culture and that every student's work is celebrated.

Why You’ll Succeed (Qualifications)

  • Certified Professional: Valid Missouri Teaching Certification in Art (K-9 or K-12).
  • Degree Requirements: Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree, required; Master’s degree, preferred.
  • Master of Media: You are comfortable teaching everything from ceramics and painting to digital media and sustainable "found-object" art.
  • Equity Champion: You are committed to diverse representation in the curriculum, ensuring students study artists from all backgrounds and cultures.
  • STEAM-Ready: You are excited to collaborate on cross-curricular projects that blend science, tech, engineering, and math with the "A" in STEAM.

Your Impact (Key Duties)

  • Inspire Expression: Create a safe, high-energy studio environment where students can experiment with a wide variety of artistic tools and techniques.
  • Showcase Excellence: Curate building-wide and district-wide art exhibitions that instill pride in our students and families.
  • Utilize Resources: Leverage our district’s unique assets, like Little Creek Nature Area, for plein air painting or nature-based sculpture projects.
  • Collaborate: Partner with grade-level PLCs to connect art lessons to what students are learning in literacy, history, and science.
  • Foster Belonging: Ensure your classroom is an inclusive space where art is used as a tool for social-emotional learning and community building.

Your Leadership Partners

  • Primary Support: Building Principal
  • Instructional Support: District Fine Arts Coordinator and Building Leadership Team

The Logistics of Your Success

  • Classification: Exempt, Certified Staff
  • Work Year: 10-Month Academic Calendar, 187 Contract Days
  • Salary: Based on the Teacher Salary Schedule, determined by experience and education.

The FFSD Advantage: Total Rewards & Support

We don't just hire artists; we invest in educators.

  • Mentorship that Matters: Every new art teacher is paired with a veteran mentor to help you navigate our district's vibrant arts community.
  • Time for Excellence: Weekly collaborative planning time built into the contract.
  • Professional Growth: Tuition reimbursement and district-provided PD focused on the latest trends in art education and technology.
  • Studio Support: Access to district-level supply ordering and resources to ensure your studio is fully equipped for innovation.
  • Health & Heart: 100% district-paid medical, dental, and vision plans, plus access to the Ferg-Flor Care clinic for your health and wellness.
