Position Overview:
The Food and Commissary Services Jail Admin is a dual-role position responsible for supporting food preparation and cooking duties within a secure facility kitchen, as well as managing commissary distribution for incarcerated residents. This role requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to follow procedures in a fast-paced, regulated environment. You will be working in the Clay IN Detention Facility.
Key Responsibilities:
Food Cook Duties
- Food Preparation: Chop vegetables, portion ingredients, prepare sauces, and ensure cooking stations are stocked with necessary supplies.
- Cooking: Prepare menu items according to established recipes using various cooking methods such as grilling, frying, and sautéing.
- Presentation: Ensure all dishes are presented in alignment with standards, maintaining high quality and consistency.
- Cleanliness: Maintain a clean, sanitized, and organized workstation throughout the shift.
- Inventory Support: Assist in restocking and monitoring kitchen inventory as needed.
Skills & Knowledge Required:
- Understanding of cooking techniques, food safety practices, and kitchen operations.
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a high-pressure environment.
- Strong attention to detail in food preparation and presentation.
- Ability to work collaboratively with kitchen staff and follow verbal and written directions.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
Commissary Jail Admin Duties
- Sorting Orders: Receive and unpack commissary deliveries from pallets; organize and transport items to appropriate housing units/pods.
- Passing Commissary: Distribute individual inmate orders according to the site’s approved procedures, noting discrepancies, obtaining resident signatures, and ensuring proper handling.
- Discrepancy Management: Report damaged, missing, or incorrect items per site and Victus guidelines for credit or replacement processing.
- Post-Pass Clean-Up: Dispose of packaging and trash appropriately following each distribution.
- Procedure Adherence: Follow all site and company guidelines regarding commissary processes, resident interaction, and professional conduct.
- Communication & Scheduling: Notify the site of any planned or unplanned absences in advance to ensure coverage and workload continuity.
Expectations:
- Adhere to all facility regulations, including dress code, behavior policies, and security protocols.
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions.
- Flexibility to adjust to changing site needs or procedures.
Qualifications:
- Previous food service or commissary experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to work in a secure environment and follow strict procedures.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Reliable transportation and punctuality.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds.
- Standing, bending, and walking for extended periods.
- Repetitive motion with hands and arms.
