POSITION SUMMARY: The Fitness Manager is responsible for the daily operation, supervision, and development of the Comanche Nation Fitness Center. This position ensures a safe, welcoming, and culturally respectful environment that promotes health, wellness, and physical fitness for tribal members and the community. The Fitness Manager oversees staff, programs, facility operations, and member services while supporting wellness initiatives that align with the mission of the Comanche Nation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage daily operations of the Fitness Center including facility scheduling, staffing, and member services.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate fitness staff, including personal trainers, instructors, and front desk personnel.
- Develop and implement fitness programs, wellness classes, and community health initiatives.
- Ensure all equipment is properly maintained, inspected, and safely operated.
- Monitor facility cleanliness, safety standards, and compliance with all health and safety policies.
- Provide guidance to members on fitness equipment use and basic exercise techniques.
- Coordinate group fitness classes, wellness events, and fitness challenges.
- Track program participation and evaluate effectiveness of wellness initiatives.
- Assist with budget management, purchasing equipment, and inventory control.
- Promote Fitness Center programs through community outreach and wellness education.
- Respond to member concerns, incidents, or emergencies in a professional and timely manner.
- Maintain required records, reports, and documentation.
- Support tribal health and wellness initiatives that encourage active lifestyles.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Tribal Administrator.
SUPERVISRORY RESPONSIBILITIES AND REPORTING:
- Reports directly to the Tribal Administrator.
- Provides overall leadership and management of the Comanche Nation Fitness Program.
- Supervises personnel, including fitness staff, trainers, and support personnel.
- Responsible for staff scheduling, training, performance evaluation, and disciplinary actions in accordance with tribal personnel policies.
- Oversees daily operations including member services, classes or training sessions.
- Promotes a positive and team-oriented work environment.
- Ensures staff maintain high standards of professionalism, safety, and customer service.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS REQUIRED:
- Must be able to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move fitness equipment up to 50 lbs on occasion.
- Must have sufficient hand-eye coordination and dexterity to operate fitness machines and office equipment.
- Ability to demonstrate exercises and proper use of equipment to staff and members.
- May require bending, twisting, kneeling, or reaching when assisting with equipment setup or program activities.
- Normal visual and auditory acuity required for monitoring staff and members and maintaining safety.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work is primarily performed indoors in a fitness center setting with exposure to gym equipment, weights, and group activity areas.
- May be required to work evenings, weekends, and during special events or wellness programs.
- Exposure to moderate noise levels from exercise equipment and group fitness classes.
- May require handling cleaning chemicals, maintenance tasks, and occasionally assisting with minor facility repairs.
- Position involves frequent interaction with the public, including tribal members, staff, and community participants.
- Must maintain a professional and welcoming environment in accordance with the Comanche Nation’s standards and business etiquettes.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Management, Health Promotion, or related field preferred.
- Equivalent experience in fitness facility management may be considered.
Experience
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in fitness center operations, recreation management, or wellness programming.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
Certifications
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification required.
- Nationally recognized fitness certification preferred (NASM, ACE, ACSM, or equivalent).
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong knowledge of fitness equipment, exercise programming, and wellness practices.
- Leadership and staff management skills.
