What are the responsibilities and job description for the Systems Analyst position at Comal ISD?
Primary Purpose:
Develops, manages, and maintains scripts and applications for multiple District departments with the purpose of improvement of data integration between systems. Assists District departments with data analysis needs, customer application development, implementation, and reporting.
Education / Certification:
- Prefer Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer information systems or related field.
- Experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Special Knowledge / Skills:
- Knowledge of Oracle, ODBC, Microsoft Access, and SQL database.
- Experience writing Structured Query Language (SQL).
- Knowledge of multiple scripting languages. Python, batch, SQL, PowerShell.
- Knowledge of report writing tools.
- Skilled in data analysis, problem solving and application design.
- Prefer knowledge of a School Information System (SIS) including the student and business applications (Skyward, ClassLink, etc..).
- Ability to develop and maintain systems documentation and technical assistance manuals.
- Ability to detect and resolve problems in application software.
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience / Other Requirements:
- Three or more years of scripting and application development.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Analysis and Programming
- Conducts detailed systems analysis to define application development requirements. Able to perform all phases of software development lifecycle (analysis, design, development, testing and implementation). Ensures that applications are designed to meet technical and user requirements.
- Analyzes system and software problems and develops technical solutions.
- Writes and maintains detailed systems documentation including user and technical manuals.
Application, Scripting and SQL Support
- Works with stakeholders and users to determine application needs, clarifies requests, and translates end user requirements into functional technical specifications.
- Acts a liaison between technology department and end users to ensure technical compatibility and satisfaction.
- Provides custom application customer support for multiple products.
- Coordinates business systems-related issues with regional educational service center staff.
- Provides data analysis support or assistance for all campuses, central office departments, parents, and the general public (via the Public Information Officer).
- Develops and writes new reports and queries using ad hoc reporting tools.
Other
- Compiles, maintains, and file all reports, records and other documents as required.
- Prepares system design and logic representation; participates in cost-benefit analysis including researching tools and technologies.
- Complies with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule and local board policy.
- Maintains a work environment that is professional, friendly, supportive, and responsive to employees and the community.
- Attends workshops, conferences and seminars approved by supervisor to remain current in job responsibilities.
