FOOD AND BEVERAGE CASHIER/HOSTESS PART TIME

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Cashier/Host is responsible for providing fast, courteous, and accurate service to guests across multiple dining areas, including Cafe Ole, Jack's Place Restaurant, Snack Bar, and the Buffet. This role involves managing guest flow, greeting guests, taking orders, providing information, and handling all cash transactions using a Point of Sale (POS) system. The Cashier/Host will ensure the service areas remain clean and well-organized while supporting overall guest satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  (Other duties may be assigned.)

• Guest Service & Order Taking:
  • Greet guests promptly and take orders in a fast and accurate manner.
  • Ensure food and drinks are prepared as ordered, including any special requests, from the Cafe Ole, Jack's Place Restaurant, Snack Bar, and the Buffet service areas.
• Seating & Guest Flow:
  • Seat guests and manage the flow of guests through the restaurant, keeping the floor plan updated and estimating accurate wait times.
  • Answer phones and provide information about menu options, wait times, and any special events or promotions across all dining areas.
• Operational Support & Cleanliness:
  • Maintain a clean counter, service area, and dining spaces across all restaurant areas.
  • Complete side work as assigned in a timely and efficient manner, including stocking supplies and preparing silverware.
• Communication & Teamwork:
  • Maintain open communication with service staff and management to ensure smooth operations across Cafe Ole, Jack's Place Restaurant, Snack Bar, and the Buffet.
  • Collaborate with team members to resolve any guest issues or service challenges.
• Cash Handling:
  • Perform all cash transactions in compliance with company cash handling procedures and using the POS system.
  • Ensure accuracy in counting money and making change.
• Health & Safety:
  • Monitor and adhere to health and safety procedures, ensuring compliance with company policies in all dining areas.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in accordance with health department guidelines.

EDUCATION:

• High school diploma or GED with restaurant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• Six months of cash handling experience preferred.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Computer Skills:
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Certificates & Licenses:
  • California Food Handler's Certificate 
  • Alcohol Beverage Service Certificate 
• Other Skills:
  • Experience with POS systems preferred.
  • Ability to accurately count and handle money, ensuring error-free transactions and change.
  • Basic knowledge of math and English.
  • Strong public relations and communication skills preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS:

• Performs duties in a well-lit, ventilated, and temperature-controlled environment, but may occasionally experience exposure to a noisy or smoke-filled setting.
• Must be available to work weekends, shifts, and holidays.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Movement:
  • Frequently stand, walk, handle, and reach outward.
  • Occasionally reach above shoulder, squat, kneel, bend, climb, and lift/carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Frequently push/pull up to 25 lbs.

This role requires a dynamic and proactive individual who is focused on delivering exceptional guest service in a fast-paced restaurant environment. The Cashier/Host will play a key role in ensuring smooth operations and high guest satisfaction across Cafe Ole, Jack's Place Restaurant, Snack Bar, and the Buffet.
