Purpose

Performs a wide range of basic landscaping, maintenance and resources management activities in parks.


Examples of Duties

Performs a variety of landscaping, maintenance and resource management duties including, but not limited to mowing, invasive species removal, trail maintenance, fertilizing, line trimming, mulching, mowing, etc.
Cleans restrooms, shelters, and picnic areas.

Picks up litter and empties trash receptacles.

Performs basic trail maintenance including clearing paths, trimming, and pruning.
Operates basic construction equipment including but not limited to hand tools, power tools, trucks, mowers, tractors, etc.
Plant, fertilize, prune, water and transplant trees.
Assist in the basic repair of buildings, signs, tables, roadways, etc.
Vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance.

Paints and stains.

Qualifications

Education/Experience
Completion of secondary education (high school or GED); must be at least 18 years of age;
Language Skills
Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with coworkers and general public on a daily basis.
Team-Oriented
Works on a team. Outstanding customer service, communications and interpersonal skills.

Attendance
Being present at work is an essential function of the position.

Mathematical Skills
Basic mathematics skills; ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions, decimals.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to carry out instructions and deal with problems involving few variables within a familiar context. Ability to work with a minimum amount of supervision.
Licenses, Registrations
Possession of a valid Ohio driver license; and ability to be insured by the Metro Park's insurance carrier.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk and hear, operate grounds maintenance and heavy equipment, lift heavy objects, operate power and hand tools, drive park vehicles, mowers, golf carts, etc. The employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms, etc. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Work Environment
While performing the regular duties of the job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Work Hours
Schedule is based solely on operational need but typically will be 40 hours per week for the defined season (May to September). Hours may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Any Additional Information
Ability and willingness to cooperate with coworkers on group projects. Ability to complete routine forms.
