REPORTS TO: Director, Compliance, and Intervention

DEPARTMENT: Office of Specialized Instruction and Inclusion

STARTING SALARY: $114,387

POSITION SUMMARY : Supervises the delivery of occupational and physical therapy services to CCS students ensuring students receive appropriate support services.

Essential Duties

  • Supervises the day-to-day activities of assigned staff. Duties include hiring, training, counseling, and evaluating staff performance.
  • Supervises the delivery of occupational and physical therapy services to CCS students ensuring students receive appropriate support services.
  • Monitors the quality of occupational and physical therapy services provided and ensures compliance with related regulatory standards and district policies.
  • Works cooperatively and maintains communication with special education personnel and building administrators to coordinate service delivery and ensure all students receive appropriate support services.
  • Plans and conducts staff training and in-service programs regarding implementation of district initiatives, trends for students with diverse learning needs, best practices, and compliance issues related to students with disabilities.
  • Provides assistance and consultation to district staff and parents on a variety of matters.
  • Represents the district at IEP, ETR and Manifestation Hearing meetings assisting in resolution of various student issues and ensuring compliance with related Federal and state regulations.
  • Administers assigned budget(s); ensure expenditures are within the approved budget(s).
  • Works cooperatively with the CCS Learning and Licensure department and University representatives to host occupational and physical therapy university students. Collaborate with Nationwide Children’s Hospital to host PT residents.
  • Supervises summer programming and delivery of occupational and physical therapy services to students during the summer months.
  • Monitors district compliance with Federal and state regulations and requirements relating to the provision of educational services to students with disabilities.
  • Provides assistance and consultation to special education staff in the development of work plans to improve individual student achievement, identification, referral and effective utilization of available District and community-based resources, coordination of intervention services, and implementation of Federal, state, and local initiatives and mandates.
  • Serves as the liaison between the Columbus City Schools programs and other agencies in the central Ohio area serving children with disabilities.
  • Serves as a resource to district staff, parents, and community agencies.
  • Develops and maintains appropriate communication and relationships with all departments, and officials of appropriate agencies.
  • Maintains department records and files. Prepares required documentation and reports i.e., Medicaid.
  • Monitors and prepares department reimbursement billing for department.
  • Participates in training and provides training to all special education staff in the district.
  • Assists the Director of Compliance and Intervention with district wide projects, department projects and community engagement.
  • Supervise occupational and physical therapists to ensure the therapists develop and conduct therapeutic activities which support therapy goals and objectives that are educationally relevant and document student progress and performance in Medicaid notes according to state guidelines and department policy.

Job Qualifications

  • Valid Ohio Department of Education Administrative licensure, equivalent or willingness to apply for alternative licensure and complete the requirements to earn full licensure in a timely manner.
  • Preferred, valid license issued by the respective Ohio Occupational or Physical Therapy licensure board or equivalent.
  • Preferred, valid Ohio Department of Education professional pupil services licensure, teaching license or equivalent
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of methods for interpreting assessment results appropriately and using the results to develop therapeutic intervention plans and classroom strategies appropriate to the educational goals for the student within the least restrictive environment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of accrediting and regulatory standards and district policies related to assigned functions.
  • Demonstrate ability to have effective verbal and written communication skills and be able to problem solve in a tactful, courteous, and respectful manner.
  • Skills necessary to provide guidance, train, and review the work of assigned staff.
  • Analytical ability to develop plans of action to address a variety of issues and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and communication skills, including effective presentation skills.
  • Written and computer skills necessary to maintain various departmental records, documents, and reports.
  • Mathematical aptitude necessary to administer assigned budget(s) and monitor expenditures.
  • Ability to supervise transitions among agencies, programs, and professionals as service provisions change including early intervention to preschool, preschool to school-age, and school-age to post-secondary options.
  • Knowledge of the educational system and its crucial components including federal and state regulations and ethical/legal responsibilities, applying to occupational and physical therapy in the educational setting.
  • People skills necessary to communicate effectively and work productively with all levels of district staff, non-public school system administrators/staff, parents, community agency representatives, and other service providers.

Physical/Mental Demands And Work Environment

Tools/Equipment Use: Desktop PC with keyboard and mouse, laptop, scanner, calculator, software, desk, and adjustable chair.

Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, bending, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing, pulling, and twisting.

Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of a mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting: Occasional lifting and carrying (less than 10 pounds)

Environment: Works in office setting; may require occasional irregular hours and/or prolonged hours.

Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.

Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions .
