What are the responsibilities and job description for the Social Media Marketing Intern position at Columbus-Amsterdam Business Improvement District?
Part-Time Hybrid Summer Social Media Intern for the Columbus-Amsterdam Business Improvement District
The Columbus Amsterdam business improvement district (CABID) is seeking a part-time social media and content creation summer intern. The position will be 16-20 hours a week at $18-20 an hour, with the opportunity to flex hybrid.
Across New York City, there is a network of independent Business improvement districts (BIDs). BIDs are nonprofit, public-private partnerships created by community members and business owners to support the economic development and commercial potential of a given geographic district. At the Columbus Amsterdam BID, we aim to support small businesses within our district (96th street to 110th street along Columbus and Amsterdam avenue) by providing additional sanitation services; beautification through horticulture and art; as well as organizing community events that drive foot traffic through our commercial district.
The Social Media Intern will help us manage our current social media accounts, which are currently used to disperse informational content to our local small business followers. In addition, the social media intern will help us build our capacity for capturing and creating content for Open Streets, with the aim of attracting new foot traffic and visitors to our district.
We are looking for someone who has an idea for a content creation strategy that will engage and attract more people to our commercial district and community events. If selected for an interview, candidates should be prepared to share an idea for how they can use social media to help CABID reach more people.
Responsibilities:
- Film, edit, and publish short-form content across LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube and emerging platforms
- Be a part of the creative process and help conceptualize, storyboard, and execute videos designed for engagement, not just views
- Work directly with leadership, marketing, and creative teams
- Help shape content strategy, not just execute it
We are looking for people who:
- Are tapped into current internet culture and trends
- Are culturally competent and able to engage with a diverse community effectively
- Are passionate about community work and/or non-profits
- Are natural relationship-builders with managers, candidates, and community partners
- Are comfortable filming on iPhone, cameras, or both
- Have editing experience, particularly in Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Lightroom, CapCut, or similar tools
- Strong understanding of TikTok, Instagram Reels, LinkedIn, and emerging content trends
- Familiarity with social media management platforms
- Comfortable being in a fast-paced environment where ideas move quickly
- Wants a space to grow and learn new skills, someone who says "I can figure it out" instead of "I've never done that before"
Bonus points if you:
- Have your own TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, or creative portfolio
- Have experience creating viral or high-performing content
- Understand how storytelling differs platform-to-platform
- Fluent or proficient in Spanish or Mandarin
Compensation:
16-18 hours a week, at $18-20 an hour, with the opportunity to occasionally flex remote. Ideal start date June 25, with some flexibility.
- Research shows that minorities, women, and LGBTQ individuals are less likely to apply for positions if they feel they do not meet all of the requirements. Here at CABID, we intrinsically value diversity, diverse perspectives, and the strength they bring to our organisation. We encourage you to apply for this position if this job posting excites you, even if you don’t have all the above-listed skills.
TO APPLY:
Email a resume and cover letter to mfields@columbusamsterdambid.org. Feel free to include a portfolio or any materials that showcase your experience in creating social media content.
Salary : $18 - $20
