Position Summary
Under the supervision of the lead data scientists and Bioinformatics Director, initiate and complete established data processing pipelines while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Work with our Bioinformatics Director to research, design, develop and test new next-generation-sequencing (NGS) bioinformatics pipelines.
- Ensure proficiency in all routine bioanalytical pipelines and data processing algorithms used in the Laboratory of Personalized Genomic Medicine (PGM).
- Facilitate data transfer onto shared server or encrypted external hard‐drives for clinical review by directors, researchers or clinicians.
- Perform backup, storage and purging of sequencing files (e.g., copying, transferring and filing; periodic clearing out of analytical servers).
- Monitor backups of data generated by various instruments across the laboratory.
- Work with senior staff and central IT to establish protocols regarding, and participate in the monitoring, documentation and quality assurance of the above listed activities.
- Strategize with leadership to ensure data management and any future bioinformatics developments in PGM adheres to strict regulatory oversight.
- Perform other informatics/bioinformatics tasks as determined by laboratory leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, mathematical science, or data science or equivalent in education and experience, plus three years of related experience.
- Advanced knowledge of commonly used bioinformatics tools and algorithms, writing pipelines for analysis of NGS datasets generated using Illumina sequencing platforms.
- Strong programming and analytical skills.
- Thorough understanding of NGS experimental design, data quality control, genome annotations from major bioinformatics resources (EMBL, NCBI),
- High proficiency in scripting languages such as Shell, Python, Perl, and R in an academic or industrial environment.
- Knowledge of programming languages: Bash, R, Perl, Python
- Operating Systems: Linux and Windows system
