I.       Position Summary:
 
The Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center Director of Sales is responsible for the management and leadership of the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center Sales Department ensuring achievement of goals and objectives through the generation of contracted convention business.
 
II.     Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
 
·       Responsible for leading the sales team strategy that promotes the facility to meeting planners resulting in increased booking and revenues.
·       Manages the hobby, religious and multicultural markets, as well as other key accounts.
·       Oversee and effectively manage all administration areas related to sales including but not limited to lead distribution, prospecting, database maintenance, Convention Center proposals and contract generation, lead flow between CVB.
·       Be actively engaged and aware of progress of additional key accounts assigned to Sales Managers. This will include presence at site visits, sales calls, and sales presentations of key accounts.  
·       Update facility information and pricing.
·       Gather data to provide monthly quota/data reports.
·       Provide recommendations to VP/ GM Convention Center and oversee budget items and assess goals for the sales department.
·       Maintain strong working relationships with CMCC providers and partners.
·       Maintain detailed and current knowledge of the Columbia regional product and competitors.
·       Demonstrate competency with booking and other software systems. 
·       Advocates policies and procedures set by Experience Columbia SC and ensure that the Sales Department follows them appropriately. 
·       Responsible for planning tradeshow schedule and overseeing planning, sponsorships, pre and post event communication, and all booth arrangements
·       Perform other duties as assigned

IV.    Education/Qualifications Required:
 
·       Bachelor’s degree preferably in Hospitality or Tourism Management, Marketing, Business, Communications, Journalism or a related field. 
·       5-7 years sales experience in progressively responsible hospitality/travel sales position, preferably with a convention and visitors bureau, convention center or convention hotel.  
·       Industry Specific Certification(s) are a plus, such as CVP or CMP.
·       Demonstrated written and oral sales presentation skills.
·       Working knowledge of hospitality industry computer systems and related software applications strongly preferred.
·       Ability to travel and availability to work some evenings and weekends is required.
·       Established contacts and demonstrated past success in developing regional meetings preferred.
·       Self-directed and self-motivated team player with a positive outlook.
