Overview
The Laborer will perform many tasks that require physical labor on construction sites in all types of weather. May operate hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, concrete saws, surveying and measuring equipment, small equipment and skid steer loaders . May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support form work, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris, and tear out concrete. Will assist other craft workers, and take instructions. In addition, they will position and secrete steel bars or mesh in concrete forms in order to reinforce concrete through a variety of fasteners, rod-bending machines and hand tools. The Laborer will assist other craft workers when required as well. This position will learn their trade through on-the-job training.
Primary Responsibilities / Essential Functions
Essential functions may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. Assist in building and positioning forms for pouring concrete and dismantles forms after use, using saws, hammers, nails, bolts or form hardware.
Dig ditches and levels earth to grade specifications, using pick, shovels and rakes.
Grade dirt and concrete efficiently and accurately.
Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
Grind, scrape, sand, or polish surfaces, such as concrete surfaces for cleaning or finishing, using abrasive tools or machines.
Erect and disassemble scaffolding, shoring, braces, and other temporary structures.
Mix concrete and mortar.
Clean construction site to eliminate possible hazards.
Cut lumber to specified dimensions, and drill holes in lumber.
Hold plumb bobs, sighting rods, and other equipment, to aid in establishing reference points and lines.
Assist to align, straighten, plumb and square forms for installation.
Construct forms, then assist in raising them to the required elevation.
Install and tie rebar and wire mesh.
Install handrails.
Know whereabouts of suppliers and products along the front range.
Load and unload trucks and haul and hoist materials.
Care, clean, and organize form material in shop, in truck and at a job sites.
Drive vehicles with capacities under 26,000 GVW .
Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment, such as gas, oil, water, tires, lights, and brakes in order to ensure that vehicles are in proper working condition.
Load and unload trucks, vans, or automobiles.
Obey traffic laws, and follow established traffic and transportation procedures.
Read maps, and follow written and verbal geographic directions.
Verify the contents of inventory loads against shipping papers.
Perform emergency repairs such as changing tires or installing light bulbs, fuses.
Report any mechanical problems encountered with vehicles and immediately notify supervisor.
Report delays, accidents, or other traffic and transportation situations to bases or other vehicles.
Turn in receipts from deliveries or purchases.
Check fluid levels on all equipment and vehicles.
Lubricate and clean machinery, equipment, and tools.
Use power sprayer or washer.
Keep jobsite, trucks, and equipment clean
May be required to perform tasks from other job descriptions depending on available work and schedules, i.e. wall/foundation building as form setter, earthwork, etc.
