Utility Worker (Seasonal/Temporary)
Please note that this position is classified as a temporary position and is expected to last no longer than six (6) months.
Colorado Springs Utilities is hiring a seasonal temporary Utility Worker. In this role, you will perform shift work in support of activities related to construction, repair, and maintenance. General knowledge of basic construction operations is valued. You will also be working in high traffic areas and required to adhere to appropriate safety practices.
Please note that this role will require working overtime, weekends, holidays, and 24-hour call outs as business needs demand. Additionally, you will be subject to working in hazardous conditions and inclement weather.
What Else Will You be Doing?
- Performing grounds-keeping maintenance activities, including mowing, trimming, pruning, and cleaning
- Using hand-operated and electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic power tools to assist with construction, maintenance, and/or landscape projects
- Reviewing blueprints, technical drawings, and performing job layouts
- Operating small tractors, trucks, and trailers to assist with construction, maintenance, and/or landscape projects
- Maintaining, installing, and repairing hardscape, irrigation, plants, trees, turf, native grasses, shrubs, and landscaping at multiple facilities
Who You Are
- Demonstrated experience in a construction and/or other manual labor capacity
- Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license
- General knowledge of construction principles, basic mathematics, blueprints, schematics, and mechanics
- Ability and commitment to performing work safely and bringing safety hazards to the attention of leadership
- Experience with operating equipment such as tandem dump trucks, mowers, utility trailers, asphalt roller, jack hammer, and/or various pneumatic hand tools
- Ability to collaborate effectively with others and communicate effectively with others, both in writing and verbally
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Exerts in excess of 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Heavy Work. Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, workspace restrictions and intense noises.
