What are the responsibilities and job description for the Professional Tutor position at Colorado Mountain College?
The primary responsibility of this position is to facilitate student learning by clarifying specific course content and promoting/modeling the use of appropriate study strategies.
This role requires a deep understanding of subject matter and excellent interpersonal communication skills. The ideal candidate will have experience in teaching or tutoring, particularly in post-secondary courses, and be able to interact with a diverse student population.
We are looking for someone who is welcoming, innovative, and focused on student success. Bilingual (English/Spanish) or conversational language abilities are preferred.
The position involves meeting with assigned tutees, consulting with instructors or SSS Coordinator, conducting in-person or online tutoring sessions, and submitting weekly reports and bi-weekly time sheets.
Essential duties include working cooperatively with SSS staff to deliver a cohesive tutoring program, respecting students' rights to confidentiality, and adhering to all tutoring guidelines.
The successful candidate will have excellent verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism.
This is a part-time position limited to 28 hours per CMC's workweek, and we offer a competitive hourly rate, benefits, and tuition benefit.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Meet with assigned tutees in designated or pre-approved areas
- Consult with tutees instructors or SSS Coordinator for advice, guidance, and direction in their tutoring work
- Conduct in person or online tutoring sessions as needed/appropriate
- Inform and/or consult with the SSS Coordinator if problems are encountered
- Work cooperatively with SSS staff to deliver a cohesive tutoring program and to respond in a professional manner to diverse student needs
- Respect students' rights to confidentiality and follow legal guidelines regarding dispersal of information
- Adhere to all tutoring guidelines and participate in tutor training sessions as requested
- Submit weekly reports and bi-weekly time sheets to SSS Coordinator as requested
