STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Summary Of Job Classification

Provides supervision, oversight, support, mentorship, and training for probation staff. Assists in forming, communicating, and implementing procedures and policies. Monitors caseload progress and performs case reviews and other methods of quality assurance.

Additional Comments

Travel to Huerfano County for coverage/meetings/trainings as needed will be required.

Essential Functions

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform assigned essential functions listed below satisfactorily.   • Supervises the work of assigned employees including interviewing, hiring, and training, planning and directing work, conducting performance evaluations, coaching employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
  • Coordinates the activities of the department and maintains effective working relationships with the State Court Administrator's Office, courts, treatment agencies, other units, law enforcement agencies, public and private social service agencies, and stakeholders.
  • Monitors case file management and follows records retention policies. Monitors data integrity, corrects coding errors, and analyzes caseload reports.
  • Assesses, prioritizes and responds to critical incidents and potential risks in the field and office. De-escalates hostile/agitated clients and potentially violent situations.
  • Acts as a mediator between clients, employees, and outside agencies to resolve conflict and problem solve issues. Collaborates with the court, community stakeholders, partners, and other agencies. Attends and/or facilitates meetings and serves on local and state level committees to develop and implement programming.
  • Performs administrative functions including reviewing and approving time sheets and PTO and ensuring compliance with Fair Labor Standards.
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and oversight of policies, procedures, and special programs for the Probation Department.
  • Attends meetings and completes training as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisor Responsibilities:

Work requires supervising and monitoring performance for a regular group of employees (1 or more full-time employees) including providing input on hiring/disciplinary actions and work objectives/effectiveness, performance evaluations, and realigning work as needed. The work performed by majority of employees is complex.

Human Collaboration

Interactions may result in decisions regarding implementation of policies. Contact may involve support of controversial positions or the negotiation of sensitive issues or important presentations. Contacts may involve stressful, negative interactions with the public requiring high levels of tact and the ability to respond to aggressive interpersonal interactions.

Freedom To Act & Impact Of Actions

Employees normally performs assignments according to your own judgment, requesting Supervisory assistance only when necessary. Special projects are managed with little oversight and assignments may be reviewed upon completion. Performance reviewed periodically.

Knowledge & Skills

Work requires advanced skills and advanced & extensive knowledge of work. Incumbent can handle complex tasks and translate complex nuances related to aspects of the job. Recognized by others within organization for technical depth of knowledge.

Fiscal Responsibility

May assist in the collection of data in support of recommendations for functional area budget allocations. May monitor division or program/promotional level budget and expenditures.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience Equivalency:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, human services or related field.

OR

Work experience in these or related fields may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required formal education.

Work Related Experience

At least three (3) years of supervisory work-related experience in criminal justice, law enforcement, social work, psychology, or similar field.

OR

Successful completion of the Colorado Judicial Department Orientation to Supervision/Management course or Judicial Executive Development Institute (JEDI) may be substituted for supervisory experience. Copies of transcript are required to be submitted with the application.

None.

Physical Effort Requirements

Exerting up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.

Work Environment/Locations:

Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions, hazards and/or exposure to risk. Occasional outside work. Office environment.
