STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Our Volunteer Deputy Probation Officer's (DPOs) are introduced to all the duties of a Probation Officer excluding home visits. DPOs are sworn in and attend a 3 day academy covering Policy/Procedures, legal report writing and case management techniques. Upon completion of the academy, DPOs are assigned a small minimum caseload to oversee. During the internship they will prepare legal documents such as Complaints, Summons/Warrants, fee waivers, extensions and terminations. They are afforded the opportunity to sit in on various caseloads to observe the multiple case types and populations. They are able to observe court proceedings which include subpoenas and specialty courts.

Our DPOs are essential to the the department and this opportunity provides a hands on experience.

Additional Comments

We require a commitment to 12 hours per week and a semester long time frame. Our hours of operation are Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Must be able to pass a background check.
