Estimator - Electrical Division
Department: Electrical Division
Reports To: Project Executive
Location: Chicopee, MA
Position Summary
The Estimator prepares accurate and competitive cost estimates for electrical construction projects across commercial, industrial, and institutional markets. This role takes ownership of assigned bids from initial document review through submission, including takeoffs, vendor and subcontractor pricing, labor analysis, and proposal preparation. The Estimator works closely with project management and the field to ensure smooth project handoff and to capture lessons learned that improve future bids.
Key Responsibilities
· Bid Preparation
· Review drawings, specifications, addenda, and scope documents to develop a complete understanding of project requirements.
· Perform accurate quantity takeoffs for materials, fixtures, conduit, wire, gear, and labor.
· Apply appropriate labor units and adjust for site conditions, project complexity, and schedule.
· Obtain and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes.
· Identify alternates, value engineering opportunities, and scope clarifications.
· Document assumptions, exclusions, and qualifications clearly on every bid.
· Site Walkthroughs and Pre-Bid Activities
· Attend pre-bid meetings, site walks, and project conferences.
· Document field conditions through notes, photos, and marked up drawings.
· Submit RFIs during the bid period when needed for accurate pricing.
· Bid Submission
· Prepare bid proposals, bills of materials, and supporting documentation for submission.
· Ensure bids are complete, competitive, and submitted on time.
· Maintain organized bid files and keep the bid log current.
· Project Handoff and Coordination
· Compile complete turnover packages for the project management team upon award, including bid breakdown, vendor information, and scope clarifications.
· Support project managers and foremen during execution as needed to clarify estimating assumptions.
· Participate in post project reviews to capture lessons learned and feed them back into the estimating process.
Qualifications
Required:
· Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and contract documents, or the willingness and ability to learn quickly.
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
· Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet hard deadlines.
· Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites for walkthroughs.
Preferred:
· Prior estimating experience.
· Field experience as a licensed electrician.
· Electrical license (any state).
· Experience with Bluebeam.
· Proficiency with electrical estimating software (Accubid, ConEst, McCormick, or similar).
Pay: From $70,000.00 per year
